When you think of a library, you probably think of books, books, and more books.
At the Saline County Library, we strive to be more than the stereotypical library. Of course, we have books, but we also have DVD’s, costumes, and even an Instant Pot available for checkout! Libraries are always changing along with our everyday lives and we want to celebrate those changes by showcasing non-traditional items available for checkout, offering prizes and giveaways to patrons, and having some fun by dressing up every day.
YOU are invited to participate in the festivities during National Library Week beginning April 8th and ending April 13th at both branches! All week long, you can turn in non-perishable food items for fine forgiveness. One item is equal to $1.00 amnesty. This does not include replacement costs, but will it cover late fees.
To make this even more fun, we'll be having a contest! We will have six boxes that you can place your donations in based on the staff member you want to get pied at the end of National Library Week! The staff member with the most food in their box at the end of the week will be pied by the person with the least amount of food! The staff members with boxes will be: Patty Hector (Library Director), Kari Beesley (Marketing Manager), Leigh Espey (Branch Manager), Sarah Beth Lesko (Youth Services Manager), Will Picking (IT Manager), and Brett Williams (Branch Teen Librarian).
All donations will go to either the library food pantry or our summer feeding program.
Each day will have a theme; the themes are:
Monday: Masquerade Monday- Wear a mask and look dapper! Don’t have a mask? Don’t worry, come by the library and decorate your own!
Tuesday: Fictional Character Tuesday- Dress up like your favorite fictional character! This can be a character from a book, TV show, movie, you name it!
Wednesday: Workout Wednesday- Come in your workout clothes and get ready to exercise! Join us in the meeting room at 11:15 AM and 2:15 PM for two fifteen-minute workouts.
Thursday: Throwback Thursday- Dress up in your favorite decade! Rock some 80’s hair or some acid-washed jeans and come to the library to take some fun photos in our photo booth!
Friday: Superhero Friday- Dress up like your favorite superhero or just wear a t-shirt to show your support (because they’ll need that support when the new movie comes out in a few weeks). Come by the library and get some small goodies from our local superheroes, the fire and police departments!
Saturday: Picnic Day- To close out National Library Week, we’ll be having a picnic at the library! Come hang out and get a hot dog and some other good treats!
Jamey South with Jamey South State Farm will also be providing us with five gift cards that you’ll be entered to win by participating in trivia on our Facebook page! Make sure you monitor our Facebook everyday next week for your chance to win!
