Programming Librarian Position Filled

We are pleased and excited to welcome Laura Austin to our team as a new Programming Librarian!

Here are a few fun facts about Laura.

If you had one free hour each day, how would you use it?

I would like to say by exercising, but realistically, I would be crafting in some way. My hobbies change with my mood, but right now, I would be weaving.

What is the most important personal attribute that you bring to your job?

Curiosity. I love learning new things and building new skills. I can’t wait to see what others find interesting and then researching and learning about those interests.

If you woke up tomorrow as an animal, what animal would you choose to be and why?

I would be a songbird. I think it would be wonderful to fly around singing all day.

What super power would you like to have?

Teleportation – getting anywhere with just a thought? Seriously, who wouldn’t want that superpower? I wouldn’t use it for anything nefarious, but not having to find a parking spot at the grocery store? That would be amazing.

What would you like to accomplish in your job this year?

I would love to build relationships with our patrons and build connections within the community to help encourage and enable our patrons’ curiosity and personal development.

Staff Pick

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. I love Bradbury’s vision of intellectual apathy and the world it creates. His vision of the future has proven scarily accurate with the constant bombardment of information from “Seashell ear-thimbles” and TV walls. It is a terrifying tale of what happens when we let others think for us and give away our ability to verify reality by allowing books to be burned. Stay curious and question everything. Interesting fact: I named my dog Dog Montag Cthulu Austin (my boys added Cthulu because his cuteness will drive you insane).
