Biographies Aren’t Just for Grown-Ups!

Did you know that the Saline County Library has three sections of biographies aimed toward children? These books are filled with true stories of amazing feats, overcoming obstacles, and learning from failure.

Biographies in our early non-fiction section are picture books, written to be read by a grown-up to a child. These have beautiful pictures and tell the story in a simple way.

Easy Reader biographies are written to be read by children from kindergarten to second grade. They have large, easy print with simple words.

Biographies in the J section can be written like chapter books. They have more information and fewer pictures. This section is also where the popular Who Was/What Was books are located. We even have graphic novel biographies!

Everyone knows, of course, that we have biographies about people like George Washington and Martin Luther King, Jr, but we also have so much more! John Ronald’s Dragons is the story of J.R.R. Tolkien, and what inspired him to write The Lord of the Rings. Shark Lady is the story of Eugenie Clark, who discovered three new species of fish and devoted her life to studying sharks, despite living during a time when women were discouraged from attending college and having a job outside the home. We have biographies of Fred Rogers, Willie Mays, Banksy, Babe Ruth and so many more! There is truly something to inspire anyone, and our librarians are always ready to help you find someone new to learn about!
