The “Write” Stuff

by Becca Griffin

If you’ve thought that writing might be a fun hobby, join us at the Bryant branch every Tuesday at 4:00 PM for The Pencil Pack! You can practice your skills, help us make an amazing newspaper and even more amazing friends. If you are hesitant about getting started or not sure if writing is the thing for you, here are some easy-peasy steps to get you started:

Step 1: Find Your Spark – Think about what you love or what interests you. It could be anything – from dragons and superheroes to nature or mysteries. Your interests are like the secret ingredients that make your writing special.

Step 2: Grab Your Tools – All you need is paper and something to write with. It can be a fancy notebook, loose sheets, or even a computer. Whatever feels right for you. Then, let the magic begin!

Step 3: Start Small – No need to write a whole novel on your first go. Begin with a short story, a poem, or even a journal entry about your day. Little steps lead to big adventures!

Step 4: Just Let It Flow – Don’t worry about making it perfect. Let your thoughts pour out. You can always go back and make it even cooler later. The important thing is to have fun!

Step 5: Add Some Flair – Use descriptive words to paint pictures in your reader’s mind. Show, don’t just tell. Instead of saying “it was a big tree,” you could say “it was a towering oak, reaching for the sky.”

Step 6: Give it a Twist – Surprise your readers! Add an unexpected turn of events or a unique character. This keeps things exciting and makes your writing stand out.

Step 7: Share the Magic – Read your writing aloud or show it to someone you trust. They might have awesome suggestions or just give you a big high-five for a job well done.

Remember, writing is YOUR adventure! There’s no right or wrong way. So, go on and let your imagination soar! You’ve got this! Happy writing! ✨
