Halloween 2026 at Saline County Library!

Another year, another spooky season! We’re so excited to kick off the events for Halloween in 2026. This year, we’ve got some awesome storytimes, movies, and more! Check out everything happening at your local library.

The Costume Closet Is Back!

Starting at 9:00 AM on Thursday, October 1, the Saline County Library’s annual Costume Closet opens its doors! Costumes will be available at all library branches on a first come, first served basis – no holds allowed. You’ll find a wide range of styles and sizes for all ages, including options for adults and even pets! Limit one costume per person.

Costumes tend to go fast, so we recommend stopping by early for the best selection. Once you choose a costume, it’s yours to keep. No returns are necessary after Halloween! Just be sure to leave the hanger at the front desk when you “check out.” The costume closet will end on November 1.

Pumpkin Decorating Contest

Join us for a fun, no-carve pumpkin decorating event using a variety of craft supplies provided by the library! We’ll supply the pumpkins at all branches (limit 2 per family, while supplies last), but you’re also welcome to decorate your own.

After you finish your festive creation, be sure to enter it in the library’s Pumpkin Decorating Contest for a chance to win a prize!

🗓️ Contest Details:

  • When to enter: October 1 – October 7
  • Voting: October 8 – October 24
  • Winners Announced: Monday, October 26

Movie in the Park: Halloweentown

Saturday, October 17 | 6:30 PM – 10:00 PM | Mills Park

Head to Mills Park for a movie under the stars! We’ll be screening “Halloweentown” (Rated PG). Limited snacks will be available. We encourage you to arrive early and save the best spot on the green! You should also bring yard chairs, blankets, and other cozy seating. The movie is expected to start approximately 7:40 PM, depending on sunset. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be cancelled.

About the movie: When Marnie discovers that her grandmother hails from the magical town of Halloweentown and that she and her siblings are witches, her whole life changes. Can she and her family save Halloweentown when it faces the evil force of Kalabar?

Trunk or Treat

Saturday, October 24 | 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM | Benton branch parking lot

Get ready for a morning of costumes, games, and out-of-this-world fun at the Saline County Library!

In celebration of Saline Reads’ book selection, “Always, Clementine,” this event will feature mouse themed costumes and activities. Library staff will be dressed for the occasion, and visitors of all ages are encouraged to wear their own costumes, mingle with librarians, and enjoy fun yard games.

Candy will be handed out to all attendees, so don’t forget your trick-or-treat bags!

Legends of the Arkansas Backwoods

Wednesday, October 28 | 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM | Benton Branch

Discover the legends lurking in the woods of Arkansas with local comic book author and illustrator Gustav Carlson, creator of Backwood Folk. Gustav will share his knowledge of Arkansas cryptids, discuss the folklore that inspired his work, and create live illustrations throughout the presentation. Perfect for comic fans, folklore enthusiasts, and curious minds!

(Not So) Spooky Storytime

Friday, October 30 | 10:30 AM | Benton Branch

Join us for a special Halloween-themed storytime designed for children ages 5 and under!

Ms. Dana, our Youth Services Programmer, will lead a fun-filled morning featuring spooky (but sweet!) storybooks, songs and dances, and festive, age-appropriate craft project. Kids and caregivers are encouraged to come in costume, and candy will be available at the Youth Services desk after the event. Come celebrate Halloween with stories, creativity, and lots of fun! đź‘»
